Charles Pachter

Canadian artist, designer, historian, and lecturer

A leading contemporary artist, Charles Pachter is a painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, historian, and lecturer. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the McMichael Gallery. Internationally he has held solo exhibitions in France, the UK, Germany, India, Japan, and Bangladesh.

His murals of Hockey Knights in Canada enhance the College Subway Station in Toronto. His art is in public and private collections around the world. 

In a career that has spanned over 60 years, he has produced works that are recognized as Canadian pop-art icons.  His paintings of the Queen, Moose, Maple Leaf Flag, Barns, and his illustrations of Margaret Atwood’s poetry are among his best-known. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Order of Ontario, a Chevalier of France's Order of Arts and Letters, and holds honorary doctorates from Brock University, OCAD University, the University of Toronto, and Lakehead University.   He is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals. 

He lives and works out of the Charles Pachter Museum in downtown Toronto, and at his second studio compound in Orillia.
