About Culture & Arts

The Department of Culture & Arts at Baycrest supports a holistic vision of health and wellbeing that embraces spirituality, innovation and the arts. We are committed to tapping into the creative potential of our patients and residents to improve physical and emotional health, increase feelings of confidence and self-esteem, enrich relationships, and strengthen morale for all of our clients, including those individuals with significant cognitive impairment. Our commitment includes ensuring that we sustain our Jewish identity while also supporting an inclusive community of care that acknowledges the culturally diverse needs of our non-Jewish clients, families, staff and volunteers. We achieve these objectives through a wide range of programs and services designed to enrich the lives of those at Baycrest.

C&A through the Decades

Since the Toronto Jewish Old Folks Home first opened its doors on Cecil Street in 1918, the emphasis on a holistic vision of health and wellbeing that embraces spirituality, innovation and the arts has been front and centre. Though the methods may change, the importance of health through the intersection of physical and emotional wellbeing has remained.
